<p>神と人間を結ぶ具体的作法が祭祀であり、その祭祀を行う場所が神社である。一般的に、鳥居、参道、本殿などがあり、神道における祭祀や参拝の施設として機能する。</p>

<p>神社の中でも<a href="/dictionary/皇族">皇族</a>を祀っている神社を<a href="/dictionary/神宮">神宮</a>といい、本来<a href="/dictionary/伊勢神宮">伊勢神宮</a>の一つのみである。<br>神社には階級がありそれぞれ一ノ宮、二ノ宮、三ノ宮、二十二社などがある。三ノ宮以下のことが四ノ宮なのと呼ばれることもあるが一般的でない。<br>ちなみにコレは神社の階級でありまつられている<a href="/dictionary/神">神</a>の階級ではない。<a href="/dictionary/八尾萬">八尾萬</a>の神に階級はない。全て同等の扱いがされている。しかし<a href="/dictionary/皇族">皇族</a>、天照の血を持つものは参拝方法や歴史的背景が異なるため<a href="/dictionary/神宮">神宮</a>として別に扱われている。</p>
